EQUALITY &
DIVERSITY
EQUALITY VS EQUITY
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?
EQUALITY
EQUITY
Equality
means
that
each
individual or group of people is
given the same resources,
opportunities, rights, and support,
regardless of their personal
circumstances. It focuses on
treating everyone equally and
providing the same level of
access to opportunities. However,
giving everyone the same
resources does not always result
in equal outcomes because
people may start from different
positions or face different barriers.
Equity
recognises
these
differences and aims to provide
each person with the specific
resources,
support,
and
opportunities they need to
achieve a fair and equal
outcome.
Therefore,
while
equality focuses on giving
everyone the same, equity
focuses on giving people what
they need to have a genuinely fair
chance of achieving the same
outcome.
