Misandry
SIGNS AND IMPACT
In today’s world, conversations about gender equality have become increasingly significant. Misogyny refers to the hatred, dislike or
prejudice towards women. Misogyny has deep historical roots and continues to influence modern societies. Although less discussed,
misandry is the equivalent directed at men. Misogyny and misandry are harmful forms of prejudice which promote inequality and toxic
environments. Therefore, it is vital that we understand the signs and behaviours of both issues in order to challenge them and create a
more inclusive society. Misogyny and misandry can manifest in various different ways, from discrimination and violence to ignoring and
devaluing contributions. It is important to note that both men and women can have misogynist and misandryist views.
Signs of Misogyny:
Sexist Language: Frequent use of demeaning terms when
referring to women. This language reinforces stereotypes
that women are inferior to men.
Objectification: Treating women as objects and valuing
them more for their physical appearance rather than
abilities.
Devaluing Contributions: Dismissing their opinions or
undermining their ideas. It could also involve doubting their
knowledge in areas typically male-dominated or
interrupting them during conversations.
Negative Views Toward Female Empowerment: Reacting
negatively towards feminism movements. They may be
hostile towards women in leadership and management
roles.
Victim-Blaming: In cases of sexual assault or harassment,
misogynists may claim that the woman was
